With its handle in pressed horn ("corne cachée") *, its brass rosettes decoratively worked (molletonnées) at the front and back of the handle for a better grip, and its carbon steel blade, this knife was the ancestor of today's Liadou.
This new model is named the Liadou Marcillac. It has the same characteristics as the original Liadou, but with a horn tip handle that is nobler, more beautiful and of higher quality. Its double brass rosettes are decoratively worked by hand. The liners are stainless steel and the blade is XC75 carbon steel or Sandvik 14C28.
The Liadou Marcillac takes you back into the history of this emblematic AOC vineyard of south-west France, to the days when the vines across some 4000 hectares were trained and tied with wicker, itself split with a Liadou.
As the material varies from one handle to the next, every Liadou Marcillac is unique. Photos of the model shown are therefore for illustration only.
We put all our efforts into the quality and origin of our products, which are handmade in our workshop in Marcillac, Aveyron, in the purest cutlery tradition.
Le Liadou du Vallon® is a registered trademark. It is stamped on all our knives.
* : The "cacheur de corne" was the craftsman responsible for selecting the horn, sawing it to the required dimensions and transforming it into knife handles. The hollow part of the horn was used for the pressing ("cachage") stage. The cacheur heated the horn to a certain temperature to soften it, then placed it in a hollow mould where it was shaped by crushing it under a hydraulic press. The remaining burrs then had to be removed so that it could be fitted and polished on the knife handle.
